Maloyaroslavskii Children's Home, Russia, Level 1

Maloyaroslavskii Children's Home, Russia, Level 1
from 20th Jul to 3 August 2009

This Level One workshop gave the participants aged between 10 and 17 their first experience of using the Internet and of filmmaking.

Participants were incredibly interested and excited by both experiences. They were so inspired by the idea of shooting films that they asked to take the phones out at break times to shoot their own films.

During the two-week programme they made several films about areas that were of interest to them including love and physical training. Participants were enthusiastic and grasped new concepts quickly which saw them understand the technical aspects of production and editing prior to completing the course. A final screening of the films was well-received as participants saw the results of their hard-work.

In producing their final film, Fishing, the group decided to tell the story of a boy who was not allowed to go fishing as his father considered him to be too young. The film demonstrates the triumph of the boy who not only catches a big fish but lands the respect of his father as well.

Many thanks to both Russian Century and Maloyaroslavskii Children's Home for their support during the workshop.
