Our Work

World Film Collective reaches young people in their own environment, uses equipment that is sustainable, accessible and affordable and does not charge the young people to participate.

Participants are aged between 10 - 25 years and are living in communities which are facing issues such as low employment opportunities, exclusion from mainstream society, living below the poverty line and poor access to education.

We deliver the whole programme over three years. The World Film Collective programme has four levels, each one comprising of 50 hours, focusing on different genres and filmmaking techniques each time.

Final films are distributed to audiences through our website, social-networking platforms and are entered into film festivals, creating opportunities for cultural exchange.

As a result of World Film Collective Workshops,

  • two students have been offered internships with film companies in Johannesburg
  • three others were commissioned to make a film which was screened at the 2008 MobileActive conference in Johannesburg
  • students in East London received an NVQ Level 1 in Media and Visual Arts as a result of the workshop
